HTC to Bring New Tablet by 2012

Written by Vladimir Bundalo on . Posted in ANDROID, GADGETS

The company is not all that heavily into the Android tablet market since it has only two devices out in the market, Flyer and Jetstream. It is also believed there would be no low end smartphones from HTC in the meantime.

HTC is planning to bring a completely new tablet in 2012 which will not be a me too product.

“Tablet is a market we would like to try and test, to see whether we can make ourselves stand out and prevent a me-too product,” the chief executive officer of HTC, Peter Chou, was quoted as saying by Reuters. However, he asserted that HTC is focused on the smartphones currently.

Starting next month, U.S. Cellular customers will be able to get their hands on the HTC Wildfire S, HTC Hero S, and HTC Flyer tablet.  All will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

HTC Hero S

The Gingerbread-running Hero S will offer a 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU, 4-inch qHD (960 x 540) display, a 1,520mAh battery and a 5MP CMOS rear camera accompanied by a 1.3MP front-facing cam. Add it to the lineup next to the Motorola Electrify, and we’d say the carrier’s got some good options for the getting. The HTC Hero S will be available sometime next month for $200 after $100 mail-in rebate, while the Wildfire S (which will come in grey and purple) will go for $80 after rebate and the Flyer can be yours for $400 — once again, after rebate.

HTC Flyer: First Impressions

Written by Vladimir Bundalo on . Posted in GADGETS, HARDWARE

The HTC Flyer 7-inch Android tablet is already available overseas, but U.S. shoppers will be able to find it at Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile starting May 22. I just received a shipping unit, so here are some first impressions.

First, let’s get the basics out of the way. The Flyer is a Wi-Fi-only variant of HTC’s tablet, and costs $500–without its distinctive accessory, an $80 stylus. The 4G version will appear on Sprint later this summer as the Sprint Evo View 4G. The Sprint tablet will have a black case and 4G connectivity, while the HTC-branded tablet is silver with white accents.
