It has already been subjected to its fair share of name changes before being officially revealed as the HTC One X in February and now it looks like it might be getting another, as the “Jewel” for Sprint.
Already confirmed for AT&T the phone now looks destined for Sprint under its new name and with a few alterations under the hood. Nothing has been confirmed yet but the device internally codenamed Jewel, or possibly “Jet”, is expected to offer CDMA1X/EV-DO/LTE connectivity as opposed to the GSM/LTE radios to be found in its AT&T twin.
According to the source of the rumour the Jewel is going to come loaded with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Topping off its solid polycarbonate body is a 4.7″ S-LCD display with a 1280×720 resolution. The hardware is more or less the same as the One X and if it ends up following in its footsteps should also come with 16GB of storage and an 8mp rear-facing camera.
The rumours suggest that June 10 is the day when this one will hit Sprint and while AT&T has yet to confirm the release date anyone eager to get one in the UK will be able to do so from April 6. That’s the day when it starts shipping, in addition to the lower spec’d One S, and is going to be available on a contract from O2, Vodafone and Orange. For anyone who doesn’t want to be tied to a contract the SIM-free version of the One X is due to go on sale the day after and the One S later in April.
Not only does the UK get a release date but it will also be getting the quad-core version of the handset, something which the US has been denied.
